I believe I take a different approach to social media than most people because I have a background that spans 25 years of successful experience in business, technology, and marketing. What that means to you is that I understand marketing, but I also had a deep understanding of what it takes to grow a successful business and I have a technology background that helps me keep up with the latest changes. What do I mean by a holistic approach? It means that I don’t just think about marketing, I think about the total picture of what it takes to grow your business beyond the tradition confines of marketing. Some people may try to convince you that social media marketing is just jumping on Twitter or throwing up a Facebook page. Businesses need to start with at least a basic strategy and some goals. So the holistic approach is a blend of strategy, goals, marketing, technology, and common sense gained from my years of experience.
As part of my approach, I look at your website to make it “speaks” to your visitors immediately when they land and it is clear to them what action you want to take. This is called website optimization and you can read more about it. Your website is the hub of your online presence, so there is no point in building a lot of social media presence, just to have people visit your website and leave because it isn’t clear and useful. I rarely find a site that needs to be completely re-done, but I almost always recommend changes to ensure your website is working as hard as you are. By the way, this doesn’t have to be expensive if you work with someone who has a technology background and can get things done right.
So, I help business owners create a social media strategy that works. I provide social media “how to” that you can use: Twitter for business, LinkedIn for business, blog marketing, mobile marketing for business, local business website ideas, and Facebook for business. It can all be overwhelming if you don’t know where to start, and no, I do not recommend trying to tackle it all. As a small business, I know you have limited resources.
